Construction Time Lapse

A managed service can cost less than buying your own system

Buying an off the shelf construction time lapse camera can look like the cheaper option.

But the camera is only the starting cost. Once you add the hardware, solar kit, cloud subscription, SIM connectivity, installation, maintenance, site visits, fault finding and final processing, the real cost of operating your own system can quickly increase.

Boden Ryan provides a fully managed construction time lapse service, so you do not need to buy specialist equipment or make somebody within your own team responsible for keeping it running.

We specify the system, install it, remotely monitor it, maintain it and deliver the finished imagery.

For many projects, that can be a more cost effective and considerably simpler option than buying and managing a proprietary construction camera yourself.

Reliable long term time lapse without the internal workload

Construction time lapse often needs to operate continuously for months or years.

Our systems are remotely monitored so we can keep track of camera operation, power and image capture throughout the project.

For longer installations, we typically carry out scheduled maintenance visits approximately every three months, with additional visits if required.

If something fails, we deal with it. That means your project team does not need to manage cloud accounts, SIM cards, batteries, camera settings, connectivity problems or technical handovers when staff change.

A construction project may last several years. The responsibility for keeping the system working stays with us throughout.

Discuss a production

Built around the project, not around one camera

Many construction time lapse systems rely on a single all in one camera with a fixed ultra wide view.

Our approach is different. We can select the camera, lens, housing, power system, connectivity and mounting method to suit the project and the final imagery required.

That gives us greater control over composition, reliability and image quality, particularly where the time lapse will eventually form part of a professionally produced film.

Our systems can include:
22MP+ image capture
Mirrored internal SSD storage
4G, Wi Fi and Ethernet connectivity
Solar or mains power
High gain antennas for difficult locations
Flexible mounting options
Remote camera settings and control
Three location image backup

Resolution alone does not determine image quality. Larger photographic sensors, interchangeable lenses and carefully chosen viewpoints allow us to create images around the project rather than simply recording everything in front of a fixed panoramic camera.

Making every site visit useful

A maintenance visit should produce more value than simply checking a camera.

Where appropriate, we combine scheduled time lapse visits with professional progress photography and on site filming.

The same visit can therefore produce current construction photographs, people at work, ground level footage and material for stakeholder updates, marketing and social media.

This gives the client a much broader visual record of the project without arranging a completely separate production visit.

At the end of the installation, we professionally process the time lapse sequences, including image correction, deflickering and preparation for use in finished films.

The valuable asset is the imagery

Buying a construction camera means owning a piece of equipment.

The more valuable asset is the record of the project itself. Throughout the installation, imagery is backed up and retained so that the project is not dependent on a single copy of the material.

At the end, the client receives the high resolution imagery and professionally prepared time lapse sequences with the agreed usage rights.

Those images can continue to be used long after the camera has been removed, in project films, tenders, stakeholder communications, presentations, archives, marketing and social media.

The important thing is not owning the camera. It is knowing that when the project finishes, you have the pictures.
